SEA KAYKAING
UK - Nigel Dennis Designs
ROMANY -
Standard, LV, Surf, RM

The ROMANY is a manoeuvrable
day/weekend kayak. Designed for rough water and ease of handling in
the surf, the Romany can be rolled easily and is ideally suited for
the small to medium sized kayaker. Its easy handling makes it the
first choice for many coaches.
The ROMANY SURF has a wider keyhole
cockpit than any other British made fibreglass sea kayak and has more
volume in the rear compartments than the Romany. The hull design
offers high stability and the shaped foredeck allows for large feet
up to size 11/12. Having a flatter hull this kayak surfs well.
The ROMANY LV* is designed to fill
the demand for smaller sea kayaks, especially as the number of female
sea kayakers grow.
The ROMANY S RM is a plastic
version of the Romany S. It has been designed to fit a range of
kayakers from approx 5ft 4inch to 6ft 4inches tall. The kayak has
plenty of room for large feet and a low back deck to facilitate an
easy layback roll. The seat can be raised for the smaller paddler.
The kayak has fairly boxy rails offering good stability. A flattish
hull promoting better surfing characteristics, this also helps in a
following sea. With the fiberglass cockpit rim a cheaper nylon
spray deck can be used.

* LV Instead of
producing a new kayak Nigel decided to modify the Romany and
Explorer. For these models a LV (Low Volume) option is available. All
kayaks have modified cockpits and reduced volume, while the hulls
remain essentially the same. The LV kayaks have been fitted with a
new Keyhole cockpit rim customized to fit smaller kayakers. The rim
is 3.5" (87mm) shorter than the standard and 1" (25mm)
narrower with the leg braces brought back towards the paddler. All
kayaks have less volume and a redesigned front deck.
-
A low rear
deck for easy rolling.
-
A white
water cockpit.
-
This gives
the kayaker excellent grip, control and allows a quick exit if
needed!
-
Three
compartments, including an offset day hatch, allowing the kayaker to
reach into the compartment whilst at sea.
-
Sloping
rear bulkhead behind the seat, allowing the kayak to be emptied by
lifting the bow (no X rescue necessary). Polished deck recesses.
-
Plenty of
room for large feet or warm winter footwear.
-
Exceptional
manoeuvrability, with direction stability. Very fast in following
seas.
-
Large
round hatches
-
Minimum weather cocking in strong
winds. |
