SEA KAYAKING UK - Nigel Dennis Designs
EXPLORER - Standard, LV, HV

The EXPLORER is the large expedition
version of the Romany 16, with similar design attributes of its shorter
cousin, the Explorers higher hull speed and more cargo room will
satisfy the expedition-minded paddler. Ideal for the medium to large
kayaker wanting to cover distance in rough water. With its long
waterline fills the EXPLORER fills a niche for a sleek, yet stable
expedition kayak. It carves turns beautifully with remarkable secondary
stability. The keyhole cockpit with thigh braces allows for easy
handling.
The EXPLORER HV has been designed to facilitate more leg room
for the kayaker, by increasing the volume in the cockpit area and
modifying the deck mold in the area of the thigh grips, while theEXPLORER LV*, just like the Romany LV, is designed to fill the demand
for smaller kayaks. The rim is 3.5" (87mm) shorter than the standard
and 1" (25mm) narrower with the leg braces brought back towards the
paddler.
Standard - Length: 17’6" Width: 21.5" Cockpit: 32” x 15.5” Weight: 56 lbs
LV - Length: 17’6" Width: 21.5” Cockpit: 28.5” x 14.5” Weight: 54 lbs

* LV Instead of producing a new kayak
Nigel decided to modify the Romany and Explorer. For these models a LV
(Low Volume) option is available. All kayaks have modified cockpits and
reduced volume, while the hulls remain essentially the same. The LV
kayaks have been fitted with a new Keyhole cockpit rim customized to
fit smaller kayakers. The rim is 3.5" (87mm) shorter than the standard
and 1" (25mm) narrower with the leg braces brought back towards the
paddler. All kayaks have less volume and a redesigned front deck.
-
A low rear deck for easy rolling.

This gives the kayaker excellent grip, control and allows a quick exit if needed!

Three compartments, including an offset day hatch, allowing the kayaker to reach into the compartment whilst at sea.
-
Sloping rear bulkhead behind the seat,
allowing the kayak to be emptied by lifting the bow (no X rescue
necessary). Polished deck recesses.
-
Plenty of room for large feet or warm winter footwear.
-
Exceptional manoeuvrability, with direction stability. Very fast in following seas.
-
Large round hatches
